Removing Blood Stains

Todays tip will be how to remove blood stains from fabric. Blood is one of the most stubborn stains. However, there are a few tips you can use to remove blood without damaging your clothes or carpet.

Run the fabric under very cold water. Do not use hot water as this helps set in the stain. Scrub the stained area folding the stained fabric over so that you are rubbing each side against each other. If you are removing a furniture or carpet stain, use a dry cloth to soak up the stain after each scrubbing.

Once you have removed most of the stain, pour amonia on the fabric. This will not damage the fabric like bleach. If you are working on carpet or furniture, you can use a cloth dampened with ammonia to work into the stain. Then use a clean damp cloth to wash out the amonia.

I have had great success with this method. Please be aware, however, that if the fabric has temporary dye or is of a tie dye method, the dye may run.
